International Student Insurance Information

FL Board of Governors regulation 6.009 requires that all international students with F and J status have medical insurance prior to registration. Proof must be submitted to the International Insurance Department located within the Health Information Management and Compliance Office at Student Health Services.

Students will receive a “HEINS” service indicator (health insurance hold) on their MyUCF student account. Students will not be allowed to register for classes or continue enrollment without complying with the medical insurance requirement. There are no exceptions to this rule.

The medical insurance requirement can be met in one of two ways:

  • By purchasing the UCF-recommended plan through Academic HealthPlans (AHP).
  • By submitting proof of alternative insurance that is compliant with all the Florida Board of Governor’s requirements.

Coverage must be continuous. It cannot lapse during school breaks, even if you return to your country during the break, or are not enrolled summer classes

UCF Health Student Health Services has identified several alternative insurance plans that you may also choose from. Although these plans meet the minimum Florida Board of Governor’s requirements, these plans may have reduced benefits and additional exclusions compared to the UCF-recommended Academic HealthPlan option. UCF does not endorse alternative insurance plans, and students are strongly advised to review the policies of alternative plans prior to purchasing coverage.

If you choose an alternative plan, you are not required to provide a Compliance Form. You are required to submit proof of insurance. This document will include your:

  • Name
  • Policy number
  • Plan effective and termination dates

Our office reserves the right to verify any submitted Compliance Forms independently. A Compliance Form is not required for any pre-approved alternative insurance plans.

Plans that do not meet all of the Florida Board of Governors Requirements will not be accepted. Please review the Florida Board of Governor’s requirements prior to purchasing any alternative plan.
